Eugene "Jean" Kirtley

Obituary Eugene Jean Chappel Kirtley died peacefully on August 25, 2014 at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, Sea Level, NC. She was born in Bowling Green, Missouri on March 15, 1919, and was the last survivor of three daughters of Frank and Myrtle Chappel. She married Thomas Lloyd Kirtley of Sunnyvale, California on April 3, 1943, and was his wife until he passed away August 31, 2008. They lived in Hopewell, Virginia since 1945 where he worked for Hercules Inc. until retirement in 1982. She was a school teacher after graduating from Central College in Missouri, and a housewife in later years. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas Lloyd Kirtley, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy Kirtley, of Beaufort, NC and Frank Chappel Kirtley of Chester, VA, as well as six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She will be buried in Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell, VA with a graveside service at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1107 West Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860.
