Obituary Ernest Dewayne Brown, 55, of Newport, died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at home. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Gils Market, 805 Chatham Street, Newport, NC. Mr. Brown was born July 16, 1960, in Athens Georgia to Ernest and Dorothy Brown. Dewayne was an avid outdoor person who loved fishing, hunting and racing. He loved and adored his children, family and friends. To Dewayne, there was nothing better than a Ford, especially a Ford truck. He was well known for his mechanic abilities, body and paint work. He was always making something old look and run like new. He will dearly be missed by all. He is survived by his son, Ernest "DJ" Brown, Jr., of Newport; two daughters Katie Ginn of Gadsden AL, and Tonya Pilkington of Lincoln, AL; a sister Patty Sue Brown of Newport; five grandchildren, Kharma Yvonne Ray, Kari Evelyn Ray, Emilee Ginn, Joel Ginn, Christian Pilkington; nieces, Natasha Brown, Jennifer Melton, Serena Melton, and Paula Jenkins; special friend, Kimberly Hogan Garner and long-time friend Brian "Critter" Jones. In addition to his parents, his daughter, Amanda Hogan; sister, Connie Brown and the mother of his son D.J., Lillie Brewer, precede him in death.
