Erma" Pat" Freeman

Obituary Erma "Pat" Vining Freeman, 91, of Morehead City, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Carteret Health Care. Erma was born in Chalk, Texas on September 15, 1926 to Homer and Winnie Vining. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, January 16, 2018 Graveside at Bay View Cemetery. The Rev. David Price , pastor of Church of Christ will officiate. Pat was active in her church and childrens lives staying involved in PTA, Scouts, and many school and social functions. She often worked as a substitute teacher in Carteret County Elementary Schools and loved playing bridge with her friends weekly. She moved to Morehead City in 1947 after her marriage to Robert (Bob) Freeman, a Morehead City native. She fell in love with the ocean and beaches and loved nothing better than walking on the beach or boating to Shackleford or Cape Lookout. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. Erma is survived by her son Robert W. Freeman, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Melbourne, FL, daughters, Jody Freeman Gillikin and husband, Robert Gillikin, and Patti Freeman both of Morehead City. Sisters Jean DuLaney and Faye Cox, brother Glen Vining. Grandsons Daniel Lee Buck of Newport, David Dixon, Jr. of Katie, Texas and Robert W. Freeman, III, of Cocoa Beach, FL. Step-grandchildren Chrissy Overman of Charlotte, Justin Rasik of Saint Cloud Fl, and Jeremy Rasik from Cocoa FL Five great granddaughters and step-granddaughters, three great step-grandsons, two great greatgrandsons. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Brooks Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Freeman, sisters Thelma Faye Vining Findley, Ava Mae Cox, and Lois Jo "Jody" Vining Kirkpatrick.
