Emily Collins O'Hara, 89, of Morehead City, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 26, 2024 full of love and grace. Emily was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and spent her high school years in Foley, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in elementary education. She met her husband, Pat, while working as a teacher in Pensacola, Florida and they later lived in Alabama, Virginia, Maryland, and Charlotte, North Carolina before settling in Morehead City in 1974.
Emily was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, as well as a teacher in Carteret County for more than 20 years. She found joy in teaching 4th and 5th grades, spending much of her career at Morehead City Elementary and Camp Glenn Elementary. Throughout her career, Emily earned several awards for her commitment to excellence in education. She enjoyed her encounters with former students, who would greet her warmly and with fond memories.
Emily was a devoted child of God who deeply loved the Lord. As an active and caring member of Saint Peter’s United Methodist Church, she formed many beloved friendships in Christ. In her retirement, Emily discovered a passion for quilting and baking, creating beautiful quilts and handmade treats that she loved to share. Above all, Emily cherished the time spent with her family and friends, who meant the world to her. Her greatest happiness came from being with her loving husband, Pat, traveling together and enjoying beach time at the Dunes Club.
Survivors include Sons Michael (Laurie), Timothy, and Daniel (Alexandra); Grandchildren Jonathan (Megan) O’Hara, Emily (Harrison) Steele, and Benjamin O’Hara; Great Grandchildren Ronan O’Hara, Avery O’Hara, Sutton Steele, and Harrison Steele Jr.
Emily was preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years, Patrick "Pat" O'Hara. She was also preceded by her Parents, Rosa Lee and John K Collins, as well as her Brother, John Collins, and her Sister, Ellen Brahams.
A service to celebrate Emily’s life will be held at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 11 at 11 am. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Morehead City.
