Elsie Mae James Humphrey, 86, of Jacksonville, originally of Carteret County passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.
A funeral service will be held 11am on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Purvis Chapel AME Zion Church in Beaufort, with Pastor Thomas Fryar officiating. The church has asked that anyone attending the funeral please wear a mask.
She is survived by her daughter, Hattie Whitfield and husband, James of Newport; son, Jim Humphrey of Austin, TX; daughter, Barbara Shittu of Greensboro; daughter, Harriett Humphrey of Morehead City; thirteen grandchildren, John Humphrey, Shaunté Bridges, La Tasha Spencer, Letitia Foye-Green, Jameson Whitfield, Taylor White, Avery Foye Jr., Olaolu Shittu, Azinath Donaldson , Jim Humphrey Jr, Jim Humphrey II, Jamarri Porter, Niani Howell and numerous great grandchildren; sister, Jerry Hendricks and husband, Marvin of NJ; brother, Mack Owens and wife, Clara of Ayden, NC; brother, Manley James and wife, Charlene of Charlotte; aunt, Magalene Bryant of Beaufort; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn James of Morehead City and Mary Kay James of Goldsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Steven, and Jennie James; daughter, Ellen Marie Humprey; sisters, Earlene Owens, and Ollie James White; and brothers, Leo James, Elvin James, and Julius James.
