Obituary Elizabeth "Miss Betty" Butterworth Snudden, 100, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Crystal Bluffs Rehab and Health Care Center. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Victory Baptist Church, 1051 Hibbs Road, Newport, with the Pastor, Roger Whaley, and Rev. Jack Bowen officiating. "Miss Betty" was born in Paterson, NJ on November 19, 1915, to Peter and Margaret Keyzer Butterworth. She lived in Hawthorne, N.J. for 45 years before moving to Newport in 1995. While in Hawthorne, she was active in all aspects of Rea Avenue Reformed Church. Upon moving to Newport, she immediately became active at Victory Baptist Church, which became a major part of her life. She loved the fellowship and the friendships she made at Victory. Miss Betty will always be remembered for her beautiful music played on the harmonica at the Senior Citizens Center and everywhere she went and had the opportunity to play. On the Senior Center bus, she was known to entertain the folks on short trips around town. Mrs. Snudden was legally blind, and was a member of the Visually Impaired Group at the Senior Citizens Center. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a precious part of her life. She will be greatly missed by them. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara S. Gerritsen, and husband, George of Purcellville, VA ; son, Robert Snudden, and wife, Casey, of Newport; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Gerritsen, Jennifer Bodamer, Michael Snudden and Jerry Snudden, and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond and 4 brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Victory Baptist Church, 1051 Hibbs Road, Newport, NC 28570.
