Obituary Elizabeth "Betty" Hughes" Filan, 85, of Pine Knoll Shores passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, at Carolina House of Morehead City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating. Mrs. Filan was born in Newark, NJ on September 13, 1931 to Andrew Joseph Hughes and Annie McGrorthy Hughes. She worked for the Prudential Insurance Company of Newark until she married and started a family. She lived in Essex, Morris and Ocean counties, New Jersey. She moved to Pine Knoll Shores from Toms River, NJ in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Filan Cullen and husband, James, of Portsmouth, VA, Susan Filan Parent of Durham, NC, Joanne Filan & wife Andrea Johnson of Nutley, NJ; 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Adam Parent of Apex, NC; sister, Anna Zepernick, of Wantagh, Long Island, NY. In addition to her parents, her husband William Robert Filan and son Robert Filan preceded her in death.
