Dr. Thomas Burgess Carroll (Cootie), a beloved member of his community and a dedicated family man, peacefully passed away on December 16, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House. Born on September 13, 1939, Thomas led a life marked by service, dedication, and a profound commitment to education and youth empowerment.

Services will be held at a later date.

A distinguished Community College Administrator, Thomas devoted much of his career to improving the life of others, particularly at-risk youth at Plant City High School in Florida. His passion for helping young people navigate their educational journeys was a defining aspect of his professional life.

Thomas was a proud alumnus of East Carolina University, where he not only excelled academically but also made significant contributions to the university's athletic reputation. He was a celebrated All-American swimmer and was honored as a member of the ECU Athletic Hall of Fame. Additionally, Thomas forged lasting friendships as part of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Thomas also honorably served in the Marine Corps Reserves. 

Thomas cherished his family deeply and is survived by his son Jon Carroll and daughter-in-law Brenda Carroll of Canton, Georgia, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Noah and Sarah Carroll. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews who valued his wisdom and support.

He was preceded in death his wife of many years Dr. Yvonne Ralston in 2018, who played a significant role in his life, and his parents, Clifford and Norma Carroll, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.

Thomas Burgess Carroll will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the values he instilled in his family, and the positive impact he made in the lives of countless individuals. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
