Dorothy Lynch

June 11, 1932 — January 26, 2015

Obituary Dorothy Dottie Nelson Lynch, 82, died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC on Monday, January 26th, 2015. With her passing, she left a true legacy and many wonderful memories of a life well lived. Born in Cape May, New Jersey on June 11th, 1932, Dottie soon moved with her family to Portsmouth Island, NC. She spent her childhood growing up with her two sisters in Marshallberg, NC, Greenville, TN and Beaufort, NC. She was a 1949 graduate of Beaufort High School and attended the Womens College in Greensboro, NC and Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, NC. She then moved with her family to Tucson, Arizona. It was there she met and married Herbert Holden Hinson. Dottie and Herb then moved to Panama City, Florida where their three sons were born and raised. Dottie was very active in the local community as a member of the Junior Womens Club (now GFWC P.C. Juniors), Gulf Coast Follies and Forest Park United Methodist Church. Adding to the role of wife, mother and volunteer, Dottie was Assistant to the Director of the Oak Grove Special Needs Center and worked with special needs children. A great example of her gifts for compassion and care that she displayed throughout her life. After the untimely death of her husband Herb, Dottie rediscovered her high school sweetheart, Clifton Lynch, and moved back to Beaufort, NC for a life filled with love, adventure and happiness for all the days to follow. With Clifton, Dottie added two more sons to her family and continued in both work and service to the local community. She worked for the Department of Social Services in Beaufort, NC and the Marine Corps Naval Air Station in Cherry Point, NC from which she retired in 1998. She served on the Board of Directors for the Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative and was an active member of the Ann Street United Methodist Church in Beaufort, NC. Dottie also provided constant love and support to Clifton as they worked together to serve so many other worthy local causes. She was widowed again in 2013 with Cliftons passing and is surely now with him again and dancing every step of the way. Dottie is survived by her sons Bill Hinson and wife Sandy of Panama City, FL, Herb Hinson and wife Olena of Saudi Arabia, Arnold Lynch and wife Crystal of Wilmington, NC, Tom Hinson of Morehead City, NC, and David Lynch and partner Bo Williams of Richmond, VA; sisters Margaret Rodecker of Beaufort, NC, Nancy Babbitt of Beaufort, NC, Nancy Grubb of Glendale, Arizona, and Betsy Bykerk of Prescott, Arizona; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and, a legion of family and friends that will carry her in their hearts until we can be together again.
