Doris King

Obituary Doris Ann Hatfield King of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed peacefully away supported by her family and friends on July 10, 2015. She was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on March 14, 1934 to parents Walter and Marion Hatfield. Doris enjoyed her childhood with her brother Danny and cousin Betty on the family farm of her grandfather Daniel Dantzler and incomparable grandmother, Lurline Leita Harvey Dantzler. After completing her studies at Winthrop College and Duke University, she married Charles Cartmill King of Beaufort, North Carolina on August 27, 1957. Together they raised three children, Laura Moore, Randy King and Michael King, with great love and wisdom. Doris was a biological illustrator with the Duke Marine Laboratory and a talented artist and musician throughout her life. She was an astronomer, author and botanist. Active in many cultural arts organizations, Doris was a long time member of St Pauls Episcopal Church and choir. The education of children in the Carteret County school system was a passion for her and she volunteered many hours of service. Doris is survived by her three children and their families: Laura and Bob Moore, their children Risa Moore of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Walsh Moore, Arielle Fears and her great-grandchild Elijah Gregory Moore of Nashville, Tennessee; Randy and Lori King, their children Keith Placko and John and Jill Placko and her great-grandchildren Olivia Ann and Chloe Marie of Raleigh, North Carolina; Michael and Sybil King, Bethany, Christopher and GraceLyn King of Beaufort North Carolina and her beloved niece Babs Barnes. Her family wants to express sincere thanks to Sailors Snug Harbor staff for their wonderful care and her companions Susan Lewis, Dianna Daniels, Kay Willis and Debra Willis whose loving friendship was beyond compare. Carteret General Hospital staff on the second floor rendered excellent medical and compassionate treatment. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on July 14 from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm. In thanksgiving and appreciation for a life well lived, Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St Pauls Episcopal Church, Beaufort July 15 at 10:00 am with a graveside service immediately following. Everyone is welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina, P. O. Box 1514, Morehead City, NC 28557 or Charles C.
