Obituary Doretha Edwards Jessee, 97, of Morehead City, formerly of Kinston and Goldsboro, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Harborview Healthcare Center, Morehead City. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Brooks Funeral Home, with Dr. Nate Leonard, pastor of the First Baptist Church Morehead City, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston with Dr. Glenn Phillips, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, officiating. Doretha was born February 15, 1920, in Nash County to Sirvetus Edgar Edwards and Cleora Creekmore Edwards. She served as a Deputy Sheriff for Lenior County and retired in 1985. Mrs. Jessee was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro up until 9 years ago when she moved to Morehead City and joined the loving and caring members of the First Baptist Church of Morehead City. She was the last of 8 brothers and sisters who never had a lot of material things but were cohesive, loving family with good values. She is survived by her son Stephen Walker and wife Dimi, of Morehead City; three grandchildren, Laura Walker Parish and husband Jason of Newport, Kristin Walker of Morehead City, and Matthew Walker of Raleigh; four great-grandchildren, Robert and Reid Walker, Jackson and Charlotte Parish; and two of her closest friends, Frances Gooden and Stephanie Johnson. In addition to her parents, her son Rusty Walker preceded her in death The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. Flowers are welcome.
