Obituary Donald Collins Clements, Jr., 72, of Atlantic Beach, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing and Rehab Center in Havelock. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Morehead City, on March 18, 2017, at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Matt Henderson officiating. Don was born in Chicago on September 14, 1944, to Donald and Peggy (Gillette) Clements. After completing high school in Yakima, Washington, Don attended Washington State University and the University of Michigan. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Marine aviator, flying the A-6 Intruder including a tour at Da Nang, Vietnam. He ended his military career from Cherry Point MCAS in 1972, and earned an associate degree from Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville in Land Surveying. During his long career as a surveyor, based in Morehead City, he developed a number of projects including Hurst Harbor in Swansboro and Maynard Manor in Jacksonville. He served as the local chapter President and a Board Member for many years of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors. He married Linda Costen of Hubert, NC in August, 1975. He has served as a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Morehead City. One of the joys of his life was hand making Christmas cookies for the congregation. He loved boating, fishing and life in his beloved Atlantic Beach. His wife Linda died in 2011 after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis in which Don supported her with love and devotion. Don is survived by his sister Pamela (Andrew) Barrett of Berne, Indiana, and by several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He will be held in loving memory by his family and many friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1604 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557, or to the charity of ones choice.
