Obituary Demaris "Peggy" Washington was born October 27, 1937 to the late Earl and Mazie Denet in New Orleans, Louisiana. She departed this life on February 4, 2023 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. The funeral service will be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 11,2023 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Shad Barrow officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Peggy received her education at Cohen High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She met the love of her life, Joe Washington Sr. and was married for 61 years until death when Joe passed December 14, 2022. Peggy retired from Blue Bell Factory. After moving to Morehead City, NC in 1961 she united with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she served and remained faithful until her health started failing. Peggy served as President of St. Luke Missionary Circle, a member of the Gospel, Senior and Women Choirs, former member of the Homecoming Committee, Pastor Aide, Kitchen Staff, and Womens Day Committee. She was a member of the Carteret Craven County Wide Missionary, a member of the Carteret-Craven Missionary Choir, and a former member of the Crystal Coast Community Choir. Peggy loved the Lord and she held on to her faith. She loved her family, church family, and friends. She will be missed in the church and community. Peggy is survived by her devoted son, Joseph Washington Jr (Denise) of Newport; daughter, Josie Nanton of Miami, FL; two sisters-in-law, Page Campbell of Greensboro and Dorothy James of Alabama; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Washington Sr; parents, Earl and Mazie Denet; one daughter, Ava Godette; one sister, Bevelyn Price; and two brothers, Bernard, and Rudolph Denet. A special thanks goes to Deacon Sidney and Mother Ann Hargrove, Sister Paula Price, Sister Tressa Jones, her caregiver, Kathy Perrini, and Maureen DeWolf.
