Clyde Bass

March 15, 1955 — November 10, 2018

Obituary Holman "Clyde" Bass, Sr. 63, of Newport, died Saturday, November 10, 2018, at his home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, with his nephew, The Reverend Michael David Cumbie, officiating. Clyde was born March 15, 1955 in Florala, AL. He grew up in Sanford, NC and moved to Morehead City for his high school years and settled there. He became an accomplished machinist at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) at Cherry Point. He built a 41-foot sports fisherman in his yard and got his captains license to take charters once she was completed. He later completed the western half of the Great Loop with his wife, Pam. Clydes warmth, rich experiences and talent for storytelling made him a joy to be around. His family will miss him dearly, but takes comfort in the knowledge that he loved Jesus Christ, believing his promise that he is the way to eternal life. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Mott Bass, of Newport; son, Holman Clyde Bass, Jr., and his wife, Eva, of Carolina Beach; mother, Mary Reeves Bass ONeal, of Raleigh; father, Samuel Quincy Bass, Sr., and step-mother, Ann, of Sanford; brother, Samuel Quincy Bass, Jr., and wife, Sharon Ruth, of Raleigh; sister, Emily B. Bumgarner, and husband, Friedrich, of Frisco, CO; and one grandson, Tripp. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials in Clydes name be made to The Broad Street Clinic Foundation, 534 N. 35 Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or to Carteret Health Care Foundation for Hospice, P.
