Obituary Christopher Gordon Vaughan, 21, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at his home in Newport. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Brooks Funeral Home at 12:00 PM. Chris was born in New Bern, NC, on May 30, 1995, to Michael and Martha Smith Vaughan. He graduated from West Carteret High School, and was to finish at Craven Community College in the aeronautics mechanical program in December. He played baseball from childhood through his high school years, and was loved by his teammates. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed surfing, fishing and hunting. He also loved all animals. He is survived by his fianc, Samantha Howell, of Newport; his mother, Martha Vaughan, and her fianc, Nabil Massaad, of Morehead City; father, Michael Vaughan, of Beaufort; brother, Ben Robertson, and wife, Brittany, of Nickelsville, VA; sister, Latham Robertson, and husband, Frank Borders, of California; nieces , Alida Bell Borders and Rhyan Caroline Robertson; and nephew Parker Boone Robertson; aunts, Jean Spears, Debbie Boone, and Virginia Boyton, and husband, Dennis; and uncle, Ronald P. Smith, of Greensboro. Chris is also survived by his two "furry" friends, Benji and Rocky. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Winston and Ruth Latham Smith and his paternal grandparents, Gordon S. and Claire B. Vaughan, and a step-brother, Jonathan Vaughan. The family will greet friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 10:00 am until service time.
