Cherry Diamond Hobbs, 76, of Cape Carteret, NC, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving brother, Scott Workman, and sister, Kay Swain. Born on October 14, 1948, in Mingo County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Claude Samuel Workman Jr. and Alta Marie Workman.
Cherry was a kind-hearted and devoted woman, known for her warmth. She was especially cherished by the many friends and extended family members she made throughout her life, including her adopted McDonald’s family in Cape Carteret, where she worked for many years. Her presence brightened the lives of all who knew her, and she formed lasting bonds with those she considered family. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Cape Carteret, where she found community and faith.
In addition to her parents, Cherry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Billy) Hobbs; her younger brother, Lynn Workman; and her nephew, Wade Swain, son of Gary and Susan Swain. She is survived by her sister, Kay Swain (Gary); her brother, Scott Workman; several nieces and nephews; and her cherished pets, Tucker and Mango, who brought her joy in her later years.
A celebration of Cherry’s life will be held at a later date. The family will announce the details of the service to friends and loved ones in the coming days. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, surrounded by love, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion.
