Charlotte Dorothy Sheard

Obituary Charlotte Dorothy Sheard died Sunday, January 6, 2019 after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home at 211 Brandywine Blvd, Brandywine, Morehead City on Thursday, January 10th from 3 to 6:00 pm, all friends and acquaintances are welcome. Charlotte is survived by her husband of sixty one years, Bart V. Sheard, her son Bradley Sheard, an aeronautical engineer of Ellicott City, Md, her son Michael Sheard of Eagle, Colorado, the executive chef on Vail Mountain, Co., her daughter Christina Sheard, a primary grade teacher of Copiague, L.I., New York, her daughter-in-law, Kristine Sheard of Eagle Colorado, her grandson, Brandon Sheard, her granddaughter Jenee Miller and husband Phillip, and two great grandchildren, Levin and Liam Miller, and of course her beloved rescue dog Beau. Charlotte was born in Queens, N.Y. and grew up in Centerport, L.I., NY. She graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, L.I. Charlotte earned a BA Degree in education from Adelphi College, LI, NY, and a Masters Degree in Education from the State University of NY. She taught the primary grades in North Babylon, NY, for twenty years prior to her retirement. She was a highly respected teacher, frequently requested by parents for creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere for students while still developing and fostering the critical academic skills needed in preparation for the upper grades. Charlotte served as an Emergency Medical Technician for five years in the Pine Knoll Shores EM Squad soon after her retirement, along with her husband Bart, who was the Assistant Chief, and she served frequently as the primary ambulance driver. Charlotte was a master seamstress who made shirts for herself and her husband, and created the draperies and wall hangings in each of the homes she lived in. She was a member of the Crystal Coast Quilters Guild, previously served as president, and is quite renowned for her expert quilting and applique skills, having won both Best of Show and Peoples Choice awards at the annual Crystal Coast Quilters Guild. Charlotte and Bart moved to Pine Knoll Shores, where they lived for ten years after retirement within walking distance of the ocean, and during the summer months she would walk to the ocean and swim every day. Her love of the water grew from her parents, who were avid boaters, and she participated as a backstroke swimmer on the Adelphi College Swimming Team for two years. Charlotte and her husband moved to Brandywine and lived in the Hammock Place Community for five years prior to building their current residence on Brandywine Blvd. One of the things that Charlotte was always proud of was the teamwork relationship with her husband Bart, doing so many things together, and people from way back when would frequently comment, " You guys are always together." Charlotte was a lover of indoor gardening, always having potted flowers and plants to tend to in the house. She was also an accomplished cook, and her children and husband remember well her holiday creations. Her husband Bart admired and frequently commented on Charlottes double duty workload, teaching for twenty years while simultaneously covering and performing household duties and skills, a mighty task that perhaps only a woman can perform with finesse. Most prominently, however, was the devotion to her family, which was the primary objective of her life. She was particularly proud of the accomplishments of all of her children, and she will be remembered, loved, and revered by her family throughout the ensuing years.
