Charles Rose

May 13, 1945 — December 28, 2023

Charles Rose, 78, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Poplar Grove Assisted Living in Burgaw.

His Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island.

Charles Percy Rose, Sr., affectionately known as CP, embarked on his final voyage across the celestial waters on December 28, 2023, at the age of 78. Born at home on the salty breeze of Harkers Island, NC, on May 13, 1945, CP spent his last moments surrounded by those who loved him. He crossed the horizon after a valiant journey with dementia and with the same stubbornness with which he lived—refusing to let go until the tide was just right.

In his mind’s eye, CP never strayed far from the water's edge; it was his life's work and his playground. Those who knew CP will remember a man who was funny, kind, and loving. CP's laughter was as infectious as his love for whiskey was renowned. His stories, often punctuated with a twinkle in his eye, will be retold and cherished, keeping his spirit alive in the minds and hearts of his loved ones. CP's legacy is not anchored in the things he left behind but in the lives he touched and the love he shared.

Away from the water's edge, CP's heart belonged to his family. He leaves behind a loving daughter, Shannon Rose, who inherited his striking brown eyes. His sisters, Teresa Davis and Ginger Rose, will remember their brother as a beacon of laughter and love. His grandchildren, Abagail, Aiden, and Felix Rose, will hold onto the tales of their grandfather's seafaring days and the countless laughs they shared with him. Along with his immediate family, CP's memory will be cherished by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom found a friend in him. CP was preceded in death by his parents Lena Belle and Jack Rose, his sister Joyce, his wife Carol, his former wife and the mother of his children Kaye, and his son Charles Percy Rose, Jr.

In the quiet moments by the water, where the sky kisses the sea, we will remember CP always. Sail on, CP, into the vast, beautiful horizon that awaits.”
