Charles Eugene Delu

September 11, 1936 — December 7, 2023

Charles "Chuck" Eugene Delu, 87, of Newport, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at his home.

He was born on September 11, 1936, in Butler County, Pennsylvania, to Eugene and Mary DeLu.

Chuck, also known as Charles, was a man who was well loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was a loving and caring husband of 38 years to his wife JuJu DeLu. Chuck was also a dedicated stepfather to his stepson JR Sweet, whom he cared for deeply and was incredibly proud of.

Chuck's professional career included working as an electronic specialist at Pullman Company. In addition, he was a farmer, managing 800 acres and becoming a leader in developing the cattle business with BEEFALO, a breed that provided protein and less fat. Chuck was also the proprietor of Delu Electric in Pine Knoll Shores, NC, and held the position of Vice President at First Commercial Properties. He was one of the first benefactors of Saint Francis by the Sea in Indian Beach and a member of The Ocean Club in Indian Beach.

Chuck was known for his passion for hunting and fishing, which provided many families in Butler County and the local area with protein and fresh produce from his truck farm. He even established Sweet Poppies Farm, where he continued his love of farming, horsemanship, and animal husbandry. Chuck took great joy in teaching his grandchildren and the children of his friends the importance of life skills, responsibility, and having fun.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held in the future to honor Chuck's memory. In lieu of cards and flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice or to individuals in need of help.

Chuck DeLu will be deeply missed by his wife JuJu DeLu, stepson JR Sweet, daughter-in-law Ann Sweet, grandchildren Ryan Sweet, Lilly Sweet DeAngelo, Tessa Sweet, Liam Sweet, Lucy Sweet, and Ava Sweet, as well as his three great-grandchildren Dexter Ryan, Cody Patrick, and Maxwell Francis. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
