Obituary Charles Anthony Andola, 97, a resident of Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, Sea Level, NC, died October 9th, 2015 at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City, NC. Born June 25, 1918 in Milton, New York, Charles was the son of Anthony and Angelina Matarazza Andola. He graduated Cornell University School of Agriculture and married Josephine Costa Andola at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yonkers, NY, October 4th, 1941. They ultimately made their home on the Costa apple farm in Highland, NY where he became one of the larger fruit packers and apple storage operators in the Hudson Valley. He and Josephine founded Costa Apple Products, a successful manufacturer of apple juice and apple cider. Charles was very active in fruit and agricultural organizations including the National Council of Agriculture, US Congressmen Hamilton Fish's Task Force on Agriculture, the United Fruit and Vegetable Association, New York-New England Apple Industries, and the New York State Horticultural Society. Charles was appointed to New York Governor Hugh Careys Agriculture Task Force. He founded an agricultural cooperative that obtained approval from the US Department of Labor to import migrant labor from Jamaica needed to harvest apples in New York, for which he received the Good Apple Award. He became President of the Board of Education of the Highland School District, served for 7 years, and led the effort to finance and build a high school that was completed in 1962. He was a director of Bankers Trust in Ulster Co., NY, and Barclays Bank in Manhattan. Charles learned to love snow skiing and golf upon his retirement in 1973. His wife Josephine predeceased him in 2009. Charles is survived by three children: his son Charles Michael in Highland, NY and two daughters, Lesley A. Ferguson in Morehead City, and Cathryn Macrae in Manhattan, as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph's Catholic Church in New Paltz, NY, with burial at Union Cemetery, Highland NY, dates to be determined. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Egbert Catholic Church, Morehead City, date and time to be determined, following his burial in New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Egbert Catholic School Sister Martha Clare Scholarship Fund, 1705 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
