Obituary Catherine Dunn Willan, 88, of Morehead City died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at home. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, at Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Hart officiating. The interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. She was born in Raleigh, NC on March 16, 1926 to George and Novella Dunn. Her family moved soon after to Greenville, NC. When she was 10 the family moved to Morehead City. She graduated from Morehead City High School in 1943. After graduation from high school, she went to work at what is now NADEP as a painter. She loved to go to the USO and dance every night. There she met Russell Willan who fell head-over-heels in love with her and married her four months later. When Morehead City decided to form the little league she and Russ were very active in the formation. She volunteered in any way she could. She silk-screened all the jerseys in the basement of their home. When they were blessed with children in 1958 she left Cherry Point until her kids were in high school. She returned to work at Cherry Point as a tool handler at NADEP. Upon retirement, they moved to Straits Haven in Straits. She was very active in the Fabulous Fisherettes. She is survived by her daughter, Jane W. Dixon and husband, David of Newport; brothers, L. G. Dunn of Fayetteville, NC and James Dunn of Morehead City; grandchildren, Robert Dixon, Denise Dixon, and Charlie Dixon; and was blessed to have a great-granddaughter, Jayden Foster, who was her favorite little nurse for the past 18 months. In addition to her parents, her son, Georgie Frank Willan, and husband, Russell Robert Willan, preceded her in death.
