Captain Paul Johnson

Obituary Capt. Paul Jeffrey Johnson, 62, of New Bern, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at his home. Captain Paul was born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in North Wales. He became a US citizen in 1991. A seafarer from birth, Paul circumnavigated the globe on several occasions. A world traveler, he captained many power-motor yachts. He and his beloved best first mate of 31 years, Debra, were hosts to many dignitaries, among them Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and her family. Paul was a Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer, and a British Marine Officer as well. On the Eastern Seaboard, he is well known for his tales of the high seas. Currently, he was co-owner with his wife, Debra, of The Captains Stay, a Bed and Breakfast Inn on Pollock Street. He is survived by his wife, Debra; sister-in-law, Cindy Janszen-Kerley, her husband, Mark and their sons, Adam and Matt Jansen and sister-in-law Peggy Hale Young, her husband, Mark and their sons, Ryan and Bradley. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that memorials be directed to The New Bern Memory Bench Program, P. O. Box 1129, New Bern, NC 28563.
