Benjamin Franklin Thomas Iii

July 2, 1954 — February 11, 2024

Benjamin Franklin Thomas III, affectionately known as Tommy to his friends and family, passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on July 2, 1954, in Atlanta, GA, Tommy lived a full life characterized by dedication to his family, a strong work ethic, and a warm sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him. He departed this world in Emerald Isle, NC, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his children and leaving behind a legacy of love and countless cherished memories.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. Because Tommy was beloved by so many in Mansfield, OH-the city where he spent nearly his last 30 years- a celebration of life will be held in his memory this spring with details coming later.

Tommy was the devoted son of the late Annabell and Benjamin Franklin Thomas II. He grew up in Atlanta, a city he always held close to his heart, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University. His education laid the foundation for what would become an impressive career in the grocery business, where he spent over three decades dedicated to his work. Tommy then transitioned to the automotive industry, where he excelled for 20 years as a car salesman for Graham Ford in Mansfield, OH. His charisma and commitment to customer service made him a beloved figure at Graham Ford and earned him the distinction of being the top performing salesperson but also a dedicated friend to all he helped.

Outside of his professional life, Tommy's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his younger sister, Susan, and her husband, Dave Sheldon. Tommy was a loving father to his children, Kerry and his wife, Amy Thomas; Holly and her husband, Joey Liskey; and Joseph Thomas. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he will be fondly remembered by his 7 grandchildren, Chaz, Christian, Genevieve, Kane, Thomas, Rhett, and Rachel.

Tommy's interests were as generous and selfless as his personality. He could often be found taking his endless walks through the local Walmart, a simple pleasure that allowed him to connect with the community he loved. Listening to talk radio was another of his favorite pastimes; keeping him informed and ready to engage in lively discussions with friends and family. Above all, Tommy valued the time he spent surrounded by his loved ones, sharing laughter and creating unforgettable moments.

Those who knew Tommy will remember him as a man of great humor. He had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood and make people smile, even in challenging times. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support to anyone in need. Selfless in every sense of the word, Tommy's priority was the well-being and happiness of others before his own.

Tommy's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. He taught us the importance of kindness, the value of hard work, and the irreplaceable joy of family. As we say goodbye to Tom, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Tommy will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever. He has taken off on his final journey (in a Ford of course) leaving us with the essence of his laughter, the stories of his adventures, and the warmth of his love. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was truly loved and that his life was a gift to us all.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Special Olympics, 2 organizations Tommy was passionate about, in his name.
