Obituary Barbara Duff (BJ), 61, of Holly Ridge, departed this earth on Thursday, August 17, 2023, in Wilmington, NC. BJ left the world way too soon at age 61. Her battle with lung cancer reflected her courage in facing lifes challenges. Despite the pain, BJ stayed strong until the end and took upon herself all of the end-of-life decisions, rather than leaving the details for others to manage. BJ is survived by her husband, Malcolm Duff, Jr. and son, Shane LeCompte of Holly Ridge, NC; brothers, Allen Erwin of Toccoa, Georgia; Lester LeCompte of Jacksonville, NC; and Woody LeCompte of Plainfield, Indiana. She is survived by her sisters, Bonnie LeCompte and Penny Hannell of Plainfield Indiana. She is also survived by her mother, Martha LeCompte of Plainfield, Indiana and her aunt Jolene Erwin of Gainesville, Georgia, who she was very close to. BJ was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Erwin of Gainesville, Georgia and stepfather, Lester LeCompte of Plainfield, Indiana. BJ was a loving and caring person. She was supportive of family and extended family members by spending quality time with them, having lunch together, and transporting them to medical appointments. She was a strong mother to her son, Shane, and she dearly loved her grandkids: Kalaya Paul, Kara Duff and Austin Duff. An important goal for her was to see them succeed in life. And they are well on their way Not only did she love the important people in her life, but she loved her pets and all the animals she met during her Pool Technician job where she looked forward to greeting the residents dogs and feeding them treats. These local families and their dogs really loved her. BJ was a hard worker, and a true partner to Malcolm. They spent most of their time together as a tight-nit team throughout their lives, often employed by the same company in their work travels. BJ held a variety of jobs in construction, traffic control, hospitality and lastly, as a certified Pool Technician. She enjoyed the adventure of traveling among the many states where she and Malcolm lived and worked. Ultimately, BJ was happy to settle down to a quiet, peaceful life in Holly Ridge, NC, and made a comfortable home life for herself, Malcolm and Shane. The simplest pleasures in life brought BJ great joy. She enjoyed going to festivals, like the beach music festival, spot festival, shrimp festival, and mullet festival. She loved when family came over for a seafood boil and also loved visiting with relatives at the family pond. She especially enjoyed going to George Duffs house for his epic feasts. After her brother, Lester, moved to North Carolina near BJ and married Shawna, they spent quality family time together several nights a week. As many close to her know, BJ was a bit of a pack rat, and she was always good at finding a bargain and saving money. BJ was picky about her food and was known for piling on the salt and pepper. One of her hobbies included collecting Native American artifacts, as she seemed to have a strong connection with them. She also enjoyed reading and watching sports, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs and Duke Blue Devils. In lieu of flowers, please donate towards cancer research.
