Obituary Alma Gillikin Tilghman, 93, of Beaufort died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Carteret Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bruce and the Rev. Michael Fields officiating. The interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. She was born February 7, 1923 in Norfolk, VA to Ivy and Effie Hardesty Gillikin. Mrs. Tilghman was President of the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women in 1974, President of Carteret County Republican Women, a licensed beautician, Chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners from 1992 1993, President of the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology from 1991- 1993, former Carteret County Register of Deeds and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon and moderator. She is survived by her son, Carl L. Tilghman and wife Nancy of Beaufort; daughter, Linda Heidgerd and husband Charles (Dick) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jason Tilghman and wife Carolyn of Union, SC, Amanda Lewis and husband Rodney of Beaufort, Alice Buckner and husband Tom of Raleigh, Emily Steinfort and husband Race of Kaneohe, HI; great-grandchildren, Owen Buckner, Wade Buckner, Reagan Tilghman, Willis Tilghman, Victoria Lewis, Hayden Lewis, Molly Paige Steinfort and Graham Steinfort. In addition to her parents, her husband Clifford R. Tilghman and sister, Lucille Leonard preceded her in death. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
