Alma Nelson

Obituary Alma Nelson, 91, of Atlantic, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at the Atlantic Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Fields, and the Rev. Terry McInnis, officiating. The interment will follow at the Atlantic Community Cemetery. Mrs. Nelson was born on November 21, 1924 in Teachey, NC, to the late Luther and Helen Smith of Atlantic. She graduated from Atlantic High School and attended Campbell College before her marriage to Monnie Nelson. Alma was a devote Christian, an active member of the Atlantic Missionary Baptist Church for 70 years. Her love for her church was only matched by her love of her children and grandchild. As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, family was extremely important to her. She is survived by her two children, Cheryl Nelson and Reid Nelson and granddaughter, Lani Nelson. Alma was preceded in death by two young children, Monnie Lynette and Phyllis Denise Nelson; her husband of 49 years, Monnie Nelson; two brothers, a sister, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:00 am prior to the service.
