Obituary William D. Styron, Jr., passed away Friday, October 19, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family and his devoted dog, Zion. A celebration of Bills life will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, October 21, 2018, at One Harbor Church in Morehead City with Pastor Bryan Hart officiating. Bill was born on June 3, 1950 in Morehead City to the late Vieta Guthrie and William Durwood Styron, Sr. Bill is survived his adored wife of 20 years, Judy Smith Styron and three children: Jennifer Clark and husband Scott of Wake Forest; Meredith Porter and husband Scott, and Brandon Mills and wife Chalice both of Morehead City. He is also survived by his sister, Daphne Karan Jones of Morehead City; seven grandchildren: Avery, Kayla, Juliet, Ion, Gabriel and Lathan, all of Morehead City; and Elsie of Wake Forest. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews who brought him much joy and pride. In 1968, Bill entered the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He then attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business. He furthered his education at Queens College in Charlotte, NC where he was awarded a Masters Degree in Business. After serving as vice-president of a large painting corporation in Texas, Bill returned "home" to his beloved Carteret County where he embarked on new occupational adventures. In addition he taught at both the Middle School and High School level where he was an inspiration to his students. He also worked as an accountant preparing taxes for individuals and businesses. Growing up in Carteret County provided Bill the opportunity to enjoy boating, spending time on the beach with his family and taking long walks with his wife at sunset. Most significantly, Bill and Judy rented a sailboat each summer and with Bill as "Captain", they would island hop throughout the British Virgin Islands, where cherished memories were made that will sustain Judy throughout her life. Of Bills many attributes and achievements he most wanted to be remembered as a devout Christian and loving, loyal family man. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his family, showering them with affection and bringing them joy with his sense of humor. Bill will long be remembered by all who knew him as a gentleman with integrity, kindness and generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to One Harbor Church, 1605 Fisher St., Morehead City, NC, 28557, specifically for addiction recovery.
