Obituary Thelma LaForse Wooten Vines Hester, 100, was born in Farmville, NC on August 25, 1921, to the late Lymon and Lena (Atkinson) Wooten. This centenarian passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 17, 2022, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. ***Service has been rescheduled for Sunday*** A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. A servant for the Lord, Thelma accepted Christ at an early age and later joined St. Stephens AME Zion Church in Morehead City, NC. Thelma was deeply committed to her family, church family and friends. She worked in various ministries over the years, always sharing her passion for people and feeding the soul. She attended H.B. Sugg High School in Farmville, NC, until marrying her first husband Charlie W. Vines and beginning their family, having two sons Charles and Cornelius. Thelma began her working career as a domestic engineer with a prominent Farmville family. She perfected her culinary skills over the years when her life and love would take her to Morehead City and she would meet her true soulmate in James A. Hester, they married in 1954, and spent over 50 years together until his death. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: two daughters Gwendalena Hester of Durham, NC and Jamie Hester of Maysville, NC; two stepsons, John (Earline) Crawford of GA, Billie Dudley of FL; a grandson she reared James A. (Jimmy) Hester II, of the home, two daughters-in-law, Hattie Mae Vines and Johnnie Mae Vines. Two brothers-in-law, Chuck Hester, and Romeo Hester; eight grandchildren: Michael Barkley, Charles K. Vines Jr, Theresa Vines-Williams, Cornelius E. Vines Jr, Johnny Vines, Heather Vines-DuBose, Ricky Vines and Adriana Jones; and nineteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Special nieces: Claudette C. Wooten, Margaret Wright, Jocelyn Smith-Greenidge, Arlene Smith, and Constance Yelverton, and special nephews: Lyman "Ward" Cray, James E. Smith Sr., James E. Smith Jr., Delmus Green Jr., and a host of other nephews, nieces, and cousins.
