Sharon spent her entire life in the close-knit community of Morehead City, the place where she was born, raised her family, and eventually retired.
Her love story with her husband, Melvin Wayne Guthrie Sr., was one for the ages, and together they built a family that would be her greatest legacy. Sharon was a devoted mother to Kimberly W. Sanford, Melissa W. Weinmann and her husband Jason, Melvin Wayne Guthrie Jr. and his wife Cindy, and Adrienne Taylor. She was a cherished grandmother to Charles Cooper Adams, Jack McClellan Shafer Jr. And wife Danielle, Samantha Michelle Rose, Seth Aaron Guthrie, Sydney DeLotelle and her husband Noah, and Declan Taylor. She also delighted in the joys of being a great-grandmother to nine beautiful great-grandchildren.
Her professional life was marked by an admirable 26-year tenure at Fleet Readiness Center East, where Sharon's work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who worked alongside her. She was respected by her colleagues and formed lasting friendships that continued into her retirement. Sharon's interests and hobbies were a reflection of the warmth and joy she found in simple pleasures. She was an avid Parcheesi player and relished the times spent playing the game with her dear friends Kitty and Mike.
However, it was the time spent with her family that Sharon treasured most. Whether it was a quiet afternoon with her grandchildren or a family gathering filled with laughter and stories, these moments were the ones Sharon held closest to her heart. Described by those who loved her as loving, courageous, and selfless, Sharon's impact on the world around her was profound. She faced life's challenges with bravery and grace, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her loving nature was the thread that wove her family together, creating a tapestry of cherished memories that will be held dear for generations to come.
Sharon's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends. The example she set, the love she gave, and the courage she exemplified will never be forgotten. Sharon Willis Guthrie's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the strength of family bonds.
