Ronald Harold Mitchell, 87, of Morehead City, NC competed his life on Earth January 31, 2024. Ron was born in New Bedford MA to Jeanie and Harold Mitchell. He graduated from New Bedford High School and then from New Bedford Institute of Textiles and Technology. His career as a textile chemist and dye salesman began with Sandoz, Inc., spending three years in New York City before transferring to Charlotte, NC. There he met a southern girl, Violet Helms and they built a life together for 60 years. Ron’s career path led the family to Danville, VA; Charlotte, NC; Greensboro, NC; Wilmington, DE (where Ron earned an MBA); and 13 years in Raleigh, NC. Early retirement brought them to Morehead City in 1993.
Ron was an avid learner who was always surrounded by books and interesting art objects. He also enjoyed gardening, becoming certified as a master gardener. He loved to brighten someone’s day, whether it be by a wise crack or with a box of donuts.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Vye and their devoted granddaughter, Tabitha M. Jenkinson of Morehead City. Also, his brother, Robert Mitchell of Fairhaven, MA; two nephews in MA and a niece in CT. Two more nephews are in Salisbury, NC and Charlotte. Diane Vandevere of Charlotte, NC is Ron’s sister-in-law, as are Anita Helms of Hendersonville, NC and Marcia Mitchell of Fairhaven, MA.
Ron and Vye’s precious daughter, Maria M. Jenkinson, preceded him in death, as did his parents.
