Roland Farmer, Jr “Buck” died October 27, 2023, after a brief illness in Charlotte, NC.
He was born on November 14, 1936, in Snow Hill, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Farmer and Juanita Silverman Cannon, his wife, Georgia Ann Farmer, and son David Earl Farmer.
He is survived by his sister, Doris Hollowell (Gene); daughter, Vicky Smith (Vince); son, Franklin Farmer (Julie); three step-children, Lori Rogers (Rick), Todd (Nichol), Darren ( Kim); grandchildren, Bryan, Landan, Brennen, Emerson, Brittany ( Jarrett) , Lauren, Amanda, Beth and Angie (Derrick); great-grandchildren. Allison and Bria Nichol, and his best friends of 50 years, Corbitt and Peggy Rushing.
He graduated with a business degree from ECU and retired from EI DuPont after 42 years of employment. During his employment with DuPont, he traveled the world. He liked learning about different cultures, his favorite being Isfahan, Iran, where his son Franklin was born. In retirement Buck became a dedicated Panther’s fan. He and his wife Ann attended numerous Carolina Panther home games and were proud owners of PSLs for over 20 years.
Buck was known for his loud, enthusiastic whistle. After losing his wife, Ann, in 2020, he reunited with his high school sweetheart and first wife of 22 years, Dixie Mewborn Cantu. They enjoyed the last chapter of his life, traveling to Mexico and socializing with friends and neighbors.
A celebration of life will be held at his home in Charlotte on November 11, 2023, at 6:00pm. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Gales Creek Cemetery, gathering at Sound View Church parking lot prior to the service on December 2, 2023, at 1:30 pm.
