Matilda "Tilly" Ballance

Obituary Matilda Janet Anne Hall Schmidt Ballance, 54, of Mill Creek, wife, mother, gma, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend went home to be with Jesus early Friday morning, May 1, 2015, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Reeces Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Mill Creek, with the Rev. James Chadwick officiating. The interment will follow at the Lilly Family Cemetery. Tilly, as friends and family called her, worked since she was 15 years of age. At one point, she worked three jobs at one time. She spent her life as a waitress and seamstress but her favorite occupation was working on the boat with her husband and best friend, Carl, as a commercial fisherwoman. She is survived by her best friend of 37 years and husband of almost 33 years, Robert Carl Ballance; daughters, Jackie Lynn Schmidt Setliff and grandson, Bobby Ray Hall Setliff of Mill Creek and Sherry Kay Ballance and her boyfriend, Jeff Barbour, and their son, Jaylen Landon JJ Barbour of Salty Shores; parents, Wilbur and Elena Hall of Otway; mother-in-law, Arminta Ment Lilly Ballance of Mill Creek; sisters, Victoria Pohoresky of Morehead City, Pamela Davis and husband, Louis, of Otway, Melissa Duvall and husband, Alan, of Texas; brothers, Shannon Hall and wife, Toni, of Thomasville and Mark Hall and wife, Tina, of Thomasville; sisters-in-law, Cecilia Boyette of Mill Creek, Darlene Haney of Thomasville, Doreen Oglesby of Mill Creek, Debbie Ballance of New Bern, Tammy Pasela of Ohio, Crystal Ballance Reeves of Macclesfield and their spouses; special friend, Peggy Ferretti of Mill Creek; 10 nephews, 14 nieces and their families. Her granddaughter, Aralynn Kay Setliff, father-in-law, Wally Ballance, and grandparents, Shannon Hall, Tilly Hall, Erma Hall, and Hilario and Victoria Flores preceded her in death. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome or sympathy cards may be sent to the family at 117 MC Seafood Lane, Newport, NC 28570.
