Obituary Joseph Solomon Savage, III, 70, of Havelock, died Monday, October 20, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, at Brooks Funeral Home with Father Gregory Spencer officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Mr. Savage was born on July 12, 1944 in Richmond, VA to Joseph S. Savage, Jr. and Rita S. Savage. He was the manager of the threads and zipper departments at Coates and Clark in Toccoa, GA. Due to his love of the beach and fishing, he retired to Havelock, NC to be near the ocean. In retirement he was employed as a Safety Officer at Parker Marine in Beaufort, NC. Mr. Savage attended Annunciation Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He additionally volunteered at Havelock Food Bank, Relay for Life, and taught literacy classes for nine years for students seeking to earn their GED. He is survived by his mother, Rita S. Savage, of Virginia; siblings, Dolores Stewart (Gerald) of Virginia, Robert Savage (Cathy) of Virginia, Pamela Greer (Lynn) of Maryland; niece, Michelle Stewart (Norwood); nephews, Michael Stewart (Beth), Charles Stewart (Katie), Jonathan Stewart, Scott Savage (Jessica); 7 grandnieces and grandnephews; and dear friend, Betty Sosebee of Georgia.
