Jeraldine "Jerri" Brooks

Obituary Jeraldine "Jerri" Hedgecock Brooks, 81, of Beaufort died Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mary Ogus and the Rev. Michael Singer officiating. The committal will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. She was born on a family farm in Forsyth County on Christmas Eve of 1936 to Schley Kermit and Zula Angel Hedgecock. At the age of 10 her family moved to Morehead City to live on the coast. She graduated from Morehead City High School in 1955 and Women's College of the University of North Carolina in 1956. She married Bert Brooks on July 22, 1956 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Beaufort. Jerri was a co-owner of Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Morehead City from 1978 - 2017. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the choir. Jerri was a member of the Morehead City Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the North Carolina Senior Womens Golf Association as well as local Bridge clubs. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Scott and Christine Noe Brooks of Beaufort; daughter-in-law, Gina Brooks Hailer of Beaufort; grandchildren, Mitchell West Brooks, Meredith Rayne Brooks and Michael Reid Brooks; and a sister, Myrna Hedgecock DeShazo of Orlando, FL. In addition to her parents, her husband, Bertie Monroe Brooks, and son, Bertie Monroe Brooks, Jr., preceded her in death. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Monday, October 29, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 215 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC 28516 or St. Egbert Catholic School, 1705 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
