Betty Jaenike

August 27, 1924 — December 21, 2014

Obituary Betty Jane BJ Jaenike passed away peacefully on December 21, 2014 at Crystal Bluffs Health Care Center, Morehead City, NC, after a long illness. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 27, 1924, the daughter of Stanley E. and Nora Forester Anderson. At the age of 11, she moved east with her family to Rochester, NY, where she resided for most of the rest of her life. BJ graduated from Brighton High School and then attended secretarial school and LaSalle Junior College. In 1947 she married Dr. John R. (Jack) Jaenike. After raising three children, she obtained a bachelors and then a masters degree in education at the University of Rochester. She taught 1st and 2nd grades at Council Rock Elementary School in Brighton and then at Manor Elementary School in Honeoye Falls. The greatest joy in her career was teaching young children how to read. At age 55, she retired to pursue more fully the activities she loved all her life: playing tennis, playing bridge with the girls, painting watercolors, playing piano, and traveling the world with Jack. She also volunteered to help underachieving children how to read. BJ will probably best be remembered as a generous soul, who always wanted to help others, whether to sit and listen to a friends problems, help a hostess with a dinner party, or just generally make herself useful to others. She always thought of others first, with empathy and genuine love. She was pre-deceased by Jack, her husband of 57 years, and is survived by her children, John, Paul (Kay), and Sarah (Bill) Demo, four grandchildren (Jeffrey, Kevin, Peter, and David Jaenike), and three great-grandchildren (Lola, Parker, and Cohen Jaenike). A remembrance for her will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, our family encourages you to assist or contribute to a charitable organization of your choice. A private service will be held by the family. Services You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of Betty Jaenike
