Andrew 'Andy' Blakely Pond

Obituary Andrew Blakely Pond, 64, of Beaufort, passed away too soon and unexpectedly, on November 19, 2020 at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City. He was welcomed into the arms of Jesus his Lord and Savior. Born November 4, 1956 to Eugene B. Pond and Andra Hamilton Pond, Andy worked for many years for the state as a Magistrate in both Carteret and Craven Counties. He also worked at the Carteret County Civic Center, and at The Beaufort Inn. He graduated East Carteret High School in 1974 and graduated with a BS degree in Urban Planning from Appalachian State University in 1978. Andy to this day loved ASU, and the mountains of North Carolina. He grew up at the beach but his heart was in the mountains. His greatest education though, came from life. Andy knew something about everything, and was always happy to "enlighten" his friends and family with his wealth of knowledge. He could have also been a standup comic. He came from a long line of story and "yarn" tellers and kept us laughing. In his youth Andy was a Boy Scout, played little league baseball, played football and played the trombone in the school band. He was baptized and reared in the First Baptist Church of Beaufort. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Beaufort. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM 2:45 PM at the church. He is survived by his mother, Andra Pond of Beaufort; beloved longtime partner, Ms. Jackie Ward; sister, Heather P. Williams and her husband Jim; much adored niece, Alexandra Blake Williams all of Raleigh; uncle, Edward Pond and his wife Dorothy of Davis. aunts, Barbara Duncan of Durham, and Thelma Pittman of Davis; cousins, Rose Marie P. Gillikin of Chapel Hill, Frank Pittman of Durham, Elbert Wayne Pittman of Davis, Andrea Crabtree Barnard, Chris Crabtree both of Dunwoody GA, Richard Pond, Priscila Pond DiNatale both of Atlanta GA, Anna Pond McLamb of Raleigh, Donna Jackola, and Linda Hamilton both of Durham. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Pond; paternal grandparents, Blakely S. and Effie Davis Pond; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Lulia Messick Hamilton; aunts and uncle, Clem and Paula Crabtree, two maternal uncles, aunt Margaret Davis Gaskill, and great aunt, Delia Pond Davis.
